BENGALURU:Clinical hypnotherapist Mona Sheth claims she can rewire your brain by letting you access your subconscious.Mona, certified in hypnotherapy by EKAA Integrated Clinical Hypnotherapy Foundation, will be holding a self hypnosis workshop in the city. According to her, the session will help people gain an understanding of how their mind operates, make them aware of their belief systems and allow them to change it by accessing the subconscious mind though self hypnosis.
Self Hypnosis involves induction into trance. “The process works at the alpha state of mind. When in this state, if you make positive suggestions to yourself, you can alter the way you feel and deal with your life,” she says, adding that these changes are 6,000 times more likely to happen at a subconscious level than a conscious level.
When the brain is in the alpha state, its dominant operating frequency is between 8 and 13 Hz, informs Mona. The session will be held in two stages. She explains, “In the first part, we help people set triggers at emotional and physical levels for relaxation. We call them ‘keywords’. In the second part, we teach them to access the subconscious mind through these keywords.”
A software engineer Nizamuddin Thonduru says the keywords resemble a mantra. “Some keywords are used repeatedly- at physical, mental and spiritual levels such as sensation, relaxation and deep sleep. You pick a word that you feel most connected to and repeat it in mind for seven times.” He claims the process helps him get into trance in a minute.
Daily practise of self hypnosis is deeply relaxing and therapeutic. Nizamuddin adds, “When you are frustrated at work or things in life don’t work the way you wish it should or it tests your patience, self hypnosis helps you stay calm.”
The 33-year-old has been practising self hypnosis for about three months now. “Earlier, I was able to meditate only for 15 minutes. I would feel restless and feel an urge to get up soon; but now I can continue for about an hour,” he says. He adds that traditional method for hypnosis involves counting backwards from 100 to 1. “It takes about 30 to 45 minutes. But, self hypnosis is just a 15-minute process,” he says.
